Lawrence Cassidy visited the District 6 Museum in South Africa as part of his PhD research in 2006. This museum commemorated the District 6 area in central Cape Town that was demolished.
Since then, Lawrence has been working to compare the process of re-development in Salford, particularly in the areas of Broughton and Langworthy, with what happened in South Africa.
Just like in South Africa, the process has involved saving maps and street signs from the original area.
Jane and Mike then interviewed residents and ex-residents about their memories and experiences.
These recordings have been edited and some of them have been broadcast on 'The Health, Heritage and Happening' Hour on Salford City Radio, 94.4 fm, every Wednesday, 1-2pm, (or live on www.salfordcityradio.org).
People have also donated family snaps and Super 8 films from the 1950s and 60s, some of which were shown at Langworthy Cornerstone during the Thursday evening sessions in June, July and August, 6.30-t8pm..
